WFC 2013

22 November 2013

The German national team led by Simon Brechbühler was the next to announce the roster for the ninth Women's World Championships held in Brno and Ostrava. The regular World Championships participant will try to improve the eleventh position from the previous Championships with a significantly younger squad.

The German national team head coach didn't have an easy task at all. In summer the team was left by Sandra Auböck (née Dirksen), a key player and a long-time captain, who finished her active career. So, like his Swiss counterpart Sascha Brendler, Brechbühler had to introduce new young players into the team. The result is selection of an only sixteen-year-old defender Randi Kleerbaum.

Team Germany has an average age of 21.6 years only and the age difference between the youngest and the oldest player is 13 years. Or rather will be – Andrea Gerdes will celebrate her 29th birthday on December 15, that is on the last day of the Championships. “Despite the squad is younger on average in comparison with the previous Championships in Switzerland, I don't think it affected the team's quality. Quite the opposite,” the head coach Simon Brechbühler said to the server

His roster includes five players playing abroad. But all of them play lower divisions in Switzerland, Finland and Sweden.
