WFC 2013

03 December 2013

Floorball public in Finland look up with hope to the twenty players selected for the WFC by the coach Karo Kuussaari. The World Championships in Brno and Ostrava is a great opportunity for the Finns to remove Sweden from the floorball throne and return the gold medals back to the land of a thousand lakes after long twelve years.

The Finnish national team will come at full strength. Basically all floorball generations are included in the squad. On their way to the longed-for gold medals the Finns will surely like to utilize the experience of the thirty-year-old Laura Kokko in defence, rely on the almost flawless goalie Jonna Mäkelä, let the sniper Eliisa Alanko excel, and make use of the aggressiveness of the youngster Alisa Pöllänen.

The coach Karo Kuussaari had two years to progress with his team yet another step closer to the dreamt-of title. Two years ago the Finns were very close to defeating the Swedes in the final. Kuussaari now selected twenty players into his squad, which, quite surprisingly, doesn't include the key defender of the Swedish team Djurgårdens, Sanna Roisko. Why? Kuussaari simply didn't have a spot for her in the strong team…

The Finns will have a very tough start into the tournament. Already the first game will be important for the seeding of teams in the play-offs and may as well be essential for medal hopes of Czech players, who play in group B. Finland will begin the Championships against Sweden. And it is already clear that the Nordic derby will present women's floorball in its pure beauty to the fans in Brno.
