WFC 2013

01 March 2013

The first press conference for the Women's World Floorball Championships took place in Jurys Inn Hotel, Prague. Five years after the Men's WFC arrived at the Czech Republic the best women national teams will compete for the title of World Champions. Organizers presented the goals and motivations of their efforts to organize the best female championship in history.

Men's WFC in 2008 plucked the audience records and started a meteoric rise of floorball to the position of second largest Czech sport. The Women's WFC is expected to be a great development opportunity for Czech female floorball. "Football has for us, in terms of number of players, unshakable position but in the women's sport we feel the chance that the floorball could make the top," told CFbU president Filip Suman.

International Floorball Federation is introducing a new playing format and the Czech Women's WFC will be its premiere. Qualified teams will be divided into two groups according to the ranking for the preliminary part of the tournament. "This format promises apostasy of often criticized games between superpowers and not so developed countries, which often ended with big score diferences," highlighted this step the organization team director Jan Jirovsky. "We are expecting very interesting fights between the top four teams already in the preliminary groups," , he added and especially emphasized the fact that this is not the return to the elite A-division and weaker B-division, but even the weaker teams still have a chance to manage the medal round.

The main goal of Czech organisers is breaking of all possible records in attendance. Current record from the year 2010 is held by Swiss organisers. Swiss World Championships was attended by almost 30.000 spectators. „Great achievement of Men World Championships 2008 held in Prague and Ostrava is strong commitment for us. We want to attract from 40 to 50 thousand spectators for elite women´s floorball“ told Head of organising committee Jan Jirovský. First assumption to fill up this goal is selection of hosting cities. Our choice is Brno and Ostrava. „Brno is known as a city where people massively attend floorball. Ostrava has shown its potential during the World Championships five years back. We are looking forward to our matches that are going to be played in great atmosphere“, appreciated the selection of cities Karolína Šatalíková (Head coach of Czech National team).

During the press conference in Prague there was announced a Czech patron of the World Championship. This role was taken by famous Czech singer and actor Vojtěch Dyk. “I started to play floorball in age of nine when this sport was not so famous and popular. I used to entertain my team mates by singing songs in the dressing room. They were laughing to me so decided to finished my floorball career and became a singer” explained Vojtěch Dyk his relation to floorball.

Currently we expect two big events that are going to strongly influence the face of championship. Draw of the group stage is going to be held at the Town hall of the City Ostrava on 5th March.
