WFC 2013

13 December 2013

The match was full of inaccuracies and had a similar progress for two periods. The Norwegians controlled the ball, but their passes weren't fast enough to overcome the German defence. Both teams were getting into chances mostly after their opponents' mistakes. Other easy Norwegian shots were saved by the German goalie Indra Reck. So, the spectators saw only one goal in the first period; Mia Osterhaug scored in the 10th minute.

Despite Team Norway controlled the game early in the second period, Germany celebrated an equalizer in the fourth minute. Madeleine Heiskanen robbed Elisabeth Torp of the ball by the board and the Germans went into a 2-on-1 breakaway. Heiskanen sent an excellent pass to Franziska Kuhlmann, who scored into an empty net. But in two minutes Norway were back in the lead after Victoria Hansen scored her first goal at the World Championships. Then the Germans didn't convert their only power play in the game.

If the Norwegian pressure seemed rather toothless in the first two periods, in the third one Indra Reck was beaten five times. She had several other successful saves, but couldn't defeat Norway herself. Especially Victoria Hansen played a great match; she scored the game winning goal in the second period, added two more, and completed a hat trick. So, on Saturday Germany willmeet Poland in the 7th place match, whereas Norway will fight for the 5th place with Latvia.

“Norway belongs to the top 5 and today they were simply better,” the German goalie Indra Reck, who faced 35 shots, commented on the game (full interview here). On the other hand, Victoria Hansen was full of joy: “I'm very happy my goals helped win the game for our team and that I had such a good match. We're looking forward to the Sunday's game.” (more here)
